Warning Lights

If you’re not a master Kia technician, no need to worry, your Kia will talk to you. With an array of warning light, your Kia can relay to you if there’s a situation or malfunction with a number of vehicle operation systems or possible engine issue. On this Kia Service Care page we’ll go through some of the warning lights you’ll find on your Kia.

Some warning lights come on momentarily when your start your Kia. Make sure that all warning lights are OFF after starting the engine. If any light remain ON for longer than 6 seconds, this indicates a situation that needs attention.

If one of these warning lights is telling you there’s an issue with your vehicle bring it into our Kia Service Center and speak with one of our certified Kia technicians. Master Warning Mode

This warning light informs the driver the following situations:

  • Low washer fluid
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) (if equipped)
  • Fuel cap open
  • Service required

Seat Belt Warning
This warning light informs the driver that the seat belt is not fastened. You can find the front passenger’s seat belt warning light on the center fascia panel.

The front passenger’s seat belt warning light will activate when the ignition switch is in “ON” position. Although the front passenger seat might not be occupied, the seat belt warning light will blink for 6 seconds. The seat belt warning light can blink when a briefcase or purse is placed on the front passenger seat.

The seat belt warning light will go off if the vehicle speed decreases below 3 mph. If the vehicle speed increases above 3 mph, the warning light will blink again.

Air Bag Warning Light
The purpose of the air bag warning light in your instrument panel is to alert you of a potential problem with your air bag – Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). The SRS air bag warning light on the instrument panel will illuminate for about 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, after which the air bag warning light should go out.

The SRS is virtually maintenance-free and there are no parts you can safely service by yourself. If the SRS air bag warning light does not illuminate, or continuously remains on, have your vehicle immediately inspected by a Ferguson Kia certified Kia technician.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light
This warning light illuminates once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position. It illuminates when there is a malfunction with the ABS (The normal braking system will still be operational without the assistance of the anti-lock brake system). In this case, have your vehicle inspected by a Ferguson Kia certified Kia technician.

Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Light
If the Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning Light illuminates with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level is low. In this case, have your vehicle inspected by Ferguson Kia certified Kia technician.

Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Warning Light
This warning light illuminates once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position. It remains on until the engine is started, or if there is a malfunction with the EPS. In this case, have your vehicle inspected by a Ferguson Kia certified Kia technician.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
This warning light illuminates once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position. It remains on until the engine is started, or if there is a malfunction with the emission control system. In this case, have your vehicle inspected by a Ferguson Kia certified Kia technician.

Charging System Warning Light
This warning light illuminates once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position. It remains on until the engine is started, or if there is a malfunction with either the alternator or electrical charging system. In this case, have your vehicle inspected by a Ferguson Kia certified Kia technician.

Low Fuel Level Warning Light
This warning light (if equipped) illuminates when the fuel tank is nearly empty. If the fuel tank is nearly empty, add fuel as soon as possible. Driving with the Low Fuel Level Warning Light on can cause the engine to misfire and damage the catalytic converter.

Low Tire Pressure Warning Light (if equipped)
This warning light illuminates once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON position. It illuminates for approximately 3 seconds and then goes off. It illuminates when one or more of your tires are significantly underinflated (The location of the underinflated tires are displayed on the LCD display).

HAZARD WARNING FLASHER
The hazard warning flasher should be used whenever you find it necessary to stop the car in a hazardous location. When you must make such an emergency stop, always pull off the road as far as possible. The hazard warning lights are turned on by pressing in the hazard switch. Both turn signal lights will blink. The hazard warning lights will operate even though the key is not in the ignition switch. To turn the hazard warning lights off, push the switch again.
